Dirt Devil 14s Unable To Secure Road Wins, Yankton Fury Bandits Avenge Tourney Loss

YANKTON, SD – Following a walk-off loss early Sunday in the Yankton Tourney the Dirt Devil 14s were right back in Yankton, South Dakota to battle an opponent they had already beaten.

Wayne defeated the Yankton Fury Bandits on Saturday, 8-5 in pool play and were on the road Tuesday evening for a double header.

In the opening game, both teams were held scoreless through four innings. Yankton then brought in three runs during the fifth inning to hold on for the 3-0 win.

Brooklyn Kruse and Aliah Schulz both singled for Wayne.

Kendall Dorey suffered the complete game loss in five innings allowing three runs (one earned) off of two hits while striking out seven batters and walking five.

From the second contest, the Dirt Devil 14s jumped out front with a 4-0 first inning lead. Yankton then started to comeback with a run in the second, outscoring Wayne 3-1 in the fourth and tallied another three runs in the fifth to win 7-5. With the two losses, the Dirt Devil 14s have now dropped four straight games and are 20-8-1 on the season.

Chloe Klug recorded a pair of singles and one RBI to pace Wayne at the plate. Virginia Kniesche, Dorey and Schulz all singled and scored a run as Hope O’Reilly and Taytum Sweetland also scored. Amara Hurlbert accounted for an RBI.

Hurlbert suffered the complete game loss in five innings allowing seven runs (five earned) off of seven hits while striking out and walking four batters each.

The Dirt Devil 14s are off this weekend and will next be in action during the Class B State Tournament in Lincoln from Friday, June 29 – Sunday, July 1.
