NORFOLK – After being crowned Sergeant Bluff Champions this past weekend the Dirt Devil 14 & Under softball team hit the road Tuesday evening.
From Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk, the Kelly’s played host to Wayne.
In the first game, Wayne got on the board with a five-run third inning before being outscored 4-2 in the fifth. The Dirt Devil 14s held on for the 7-4 victory.

Brooklyn Kruse led Wayne at the plate with a pair of singles and three RBI. Virginia Kniesche, Hope O’Reilly, Kendall Dorey, Amara Hurlbert and Brianna Nissen all singled.
Dorey picked up the win in five innings allowing four runs (one earned) off of one hit while striking out nine batters and walking eight.
From the second contest, the Norfolk Kelly’s scored a run in the first inning followed by Wayne adding a run in the second. The Dirt Deivl 14s then outscored Kelly’s 2-1 in the third inning, but Norfolk answered with a pair of two-run innings to win 6-3. With the split, the Dirt Devil 14s had their eight-game winning streak snapped and now sit 18-4-1 on the season.

Aliah Schulz singled, doubled and drove in a run while Dorey tripled and drove in a run for Wayne. Chloe Klug added a single and RBI, Kniesche singled twice as Hope O’Reilly, Hurlbert, Brianna Nissen, Taytum Sweetland and Logan Miller all singled.
Hurlbert suffered the loss in five innings allowing six runs (five earned) off of four hits while striking out and walking five batters each.
The Dirt Devil 14s will next compete in the Yankton Tourney this Saturday, June 16 – Sunday, June 17 with the Dirt Devil 12s as well as 16/18s.
