WAYNE – After a week off from competition and the team just days away from the 2021 Class C State Softball Tournament this weekend, the Dirt Devil 14 & Under softball team returned to the home diamond Tuesday evening.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 14s welcomed in the Creighton Thunder and won 8-0. The Dirt Devils are now 23-8 as they’ll next compete in Hastings for state tournament competition against the Wakefield 14s on Friday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m.
The Dirt Devil 14s opened Tuesday night’s game with three runs in the first before scoring single runs in five consecutive innings to win 8-0.
Jersi Jensen singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored while Delaney Kruse doubled, drove in two runs and scored. Caitlyn Mostek singled twice and drove in two runs; Taytem Ellis singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Kierah Haase scored twice as single runs came from Sammi Gubbels, Rylin Hall and Carli Canham.
Sammi Gubbels (57 pitches) secured the win in five and a third innings allowing two hits while striking out four batters and walking one. Rylin Hall (14) worked the final two-thirds allowing one hit.

The winner of the Dirt Devil 14s/Wakefield 14U game will play Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. against the winner of either York Fusion or DMILACO Red while the loser’s would face each other at 8:30 p.m. Friday night.
