Dirt Devil 14s Go 0-2 During Wahoo Triangular

WAHOO – Following a Tuesday night road split earlier this week, the Dirt Devil 14s took part in a road triangular.

Wayne competed with both the host Wahoo and Elkhorn in the afternoon. Wahoo topped the Dirt Devils 8-6 while the Elkhorn Edge edged the 14s, 7-6. Wayne is now 1-7 on the season.

During the opening game with Wahoo, the Dirt Devils scored a run in the first and added three more in the second to lead 4-0. Wahoo then did most of their damage in the third scoring six runs before tacking on two more runs in the fourth. Wayne drove in two more runs in the fifth but fell 8-6.

Delaney Kruse singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Kierah Haase singled twice and scored for Wayne. Caitlyn Mostek doubled, drove in a run and scored; Rylin Hall doubled and scored; Hailey Schroeder singled and scored; Taytem Ellis and Emily Jaeger both singled and drove in a run; Samantha Gubbels accounted for a RBI as Sammi Gubbels scored.

Sammi Gubbels suffered the loss in four innings allowing eight runs (six earned) off seven hits while striking out two batters and walking three.

In the late afternoon outing with Elkhorn, the Edge took control early with a five-run opening inning. Following a pair of scoreless innings, Elkhorn added to their lead with two more runs in the fourth. The Dirt Devil 14s poured in six runs in the home half of the fourth but lost 7-6.

Hall singled and drove in two runs while Hannah Gubbels and Kruse both singled, drove in a run and scored for Wayne. Sammi Gubbels singled and scored as Mostek, Jaeger and Schroeder all scored.

Hall suffered the loss in four innings.

Upcoming Dirt Devil softball games will be on Tuesday, July 7 as the 12s will host Ponca at 6:30/8 p.m.; 14s at West Point at 6/8 p.m. and 16/18s at Ponca at 5/7 p.m. The Dirt Devil 10s are off until Thursday, July 9 hosting the Norfolk Golden Girls at 6:30/8 p.m.
