WAYNE – All three Dirt Devil summer softball teams were in action during the Dirt Devil Invite this past weekend.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the top team finish came in the 14 & Under age division where Wayne was crowned champions going 4-0.

The Dirt Devil 14s opened pool play with a 16-0 win over Kelly’s Fastpitch (Norfolk) followed by an 11-0 shutout over O’Neill Pride. In bracket play Sunday, Wayne won 7-0 over Highway 91 and defeated Pender (12-0).

In the opening win over Kelly’s, Natalie Kruger posted a double with three RBI, Alexandra Harrell doubled and drove in two runs while Kendall Dorey doubled and drove in a run. Hope O’Reilly singled twice, Logan Miller singled twice and drove in a run as Amara Hurlbert, Hannah Gubbels, Jaime Janke and Samantha Gubbels all singled and drove in a run. Brooklyn Kruse singled as Liberty Titiml accounted for a RBI.

Kendall Dorey picked up the no-hit, shutout win in three innings striking out nine batters and walking two.

 

From the win over O’Neill, Dorey doubled and drove in three runs while Kruse singled and drove in three runs. Titiml, Janke and Harrell all singled as O’Reilly accounted for a RBI.

Hurlbert picked up the win in four innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters and walking four.

 

During the win over Highway 91, Hannah Gubbels recorded a single and triple while Kruse singled and drove in two runs. O’Reilly doubled and drove in a run as Logan Miller accounted for a RBI.

Dorey picked up the win in five innings allowing two hits while striking out 13 batters and walking two.

 

In the championship win over Pender, five different players recorded an extra base hit. Logan Miller singled twice and drove in two runs, Amara Hurlbert singled, doubled and drove in two runs as Kruse doubled and drove in three runs. Hannah Gubbels doubled and drove in a run, O’Reilly singled and doubled, Dorey doubled and drove in two runs and Kruger accounted for a RBI.

Dorey picked up the no-hit, shutout win in five innings striking out 14 batters and walking one.

 

From the 10 & Under division (according to the tournament machine website), Wayne suffered losses to Kelly’s Fastpitch (Norfolk) 13-3 and Pender Reds 6-1 but won a high scoring game of 20-10 over Pender Black Saturday. In bracket play Sunday, Kelly’s defeated Wayne 8-3 and the Dirt Devil 10s won over Pender Black (15-7).

Pender Reds defeated Kelly’s (8-2) in the championship game.

 

For the Dirt Devil 12s during pool play Saturday, Wayne opened with a 12-2 win over Kelly’s, then lost 9-1 to Pender, fell to Golden Girls – Spitz (Norfolk) 6-4 and closed out the day with an 8-6 win over Yankton Fury Twisters. In the lone Sunday game, Golden Girls held off the Dirt Devil 12s (8-2).

Golden Girls won over Pender (5-3) to win the age group.

In the opening win over Kelly’s, Sammi Gubbels singled, doubled and drove in two runs; Mackenzie Nissen singled, doubled and drove in a run as Jersi Jensen doubled and drove in two runs. Taytum Ellis and Delaney Kruse both singled twice and drove in a run, Caitlyn Mostek singled twice and Emily Jaeger accounted for a RBI.

Nissen picked up the win in four innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out four batters and walking two.

 

From the loss to Pender, Sammi Gubbels doubled and drove in a run. Emily Jaeger singled twice while Kierah Haase and Mostek both added singles.

Nissen suffered the loss in two innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Sammi Gubbels worked two innings allowing seven runs (four earned) off four hits while striking out four batters and walking three.

 

In the loss to Golden Girls, Ellis singled, doubled and drove in a run while Sammi Gubbels singled twice and drove in a run. Haase, Jaeger and Mostek all singled as Jersi Jensen accounted for a RBI.

Sammi Gubbels suffered the loss in four innings allowing six runs (four earned) off six hits while striking out one batter and walking three.

 

During the win over Yankton, Delaney Kruse singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Kadence Rees singled and drove in a run while Hall and Ellis both singled as Jaeger and Sammi Gubbels each accounted for a RBI.

No pitching stats were recorded for Wayne.

 

Closing out tourney play from the loss to the Golden Girls, Rylin Hall singled and drove in a run. Delaney Kruse and Jensen both singled as Nissen accounted for a RBI.

Nissen suffered the loss in three innings allowing eight runs (five earned) off 11 hits while striking out one batter and walking two.

 

The Papillion Outlaws went 6-0 in the 16U division defeating UFA Thunder (Omaha) 2-0.

 

During the 18 & Under category, the West Point Bluejays finished 4-1 and were crowned champions over Kelly’s (4-3); Yankton Fury took third by defeating Fusion Heat (6-5) and O’Neill Heat placed fifth over Creighton Thunder (16-6).
