Dirt Devil 14s Advance To Gold Bracket Following Pool Play Split, Win Saturday Morning

YORK – The third Dirt Devil summer softball team was also in action during state tourney play Friday.

The Dirt Devil 14s took part in pool play last night in York.

Wayne went 1-1 with a loss to the Blair Flames (10-3) but a win over Lincoln Lightning 13s (9-0) Friday. The Dirt Devil 14s are now 13-5.

In the loss to Blair, Brooklyn Kruse singled and doubled for Wayne. Kendall Dorey doubled and drove in two runs; Hope O’Reilly singled as Logan Miller accounted for a RBI.

Dorey suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing eight earned runs off five hits while striking out eight batters and walking six. Amara Hurlbert recorded one out but allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits.

 

From the win against the Lightning, Brooklyn Kruse singled three times and drove in a run while Hannah Gubbels tallied two singles and five RBI for Wayne. Dorey singled twice, Hulbert singled and drove in a run as Liberty Titiml singled.

Dorey picked up the complete game, shutout win in five innings allowing two hits while striking out 11 batters and walking three.

Wayne began gold bracket tourney play against the Norfolk Golden Girls 14U Saturday morning.

Wayne scored four runs in the top of the third to hold off Norfolk, 4-0.

Liberty Titiml singled twice as Logan Miller singled and drove in two runs for Wayne. Hannah Gubbels singled and drove in a run while Kendall Dorey, Samantha Gubbels and Natalie Kruger all singled.

Dorey picked up the win in four innings striking out five batters.

Wayne will await the winner of either Mudd Jockies or Sensations for a 5 p.m. game Saturday night.
