NORFOLK/YANKTON – Another Dirt Devil summer softball team ended their season while the 16/18s were back in action for doubleheader outings.
The Dirt Devil 14s closed out their summer at the Norfolk Golden Girls winning game won 9-8 before falling in the season-finale by the score of 8-4. The 14s ended their season at 8-12-1 while the Dirt Devil 16/18s visited the Yankton Fury Thursday evening also splitting. Wayne won the opening game 14-1 before falling 11-4 in the night cap to now sit 10-7 on the season.
In the opening game for the 14s, the Dirt Devils outscored the Golden Girls 2-1 in the first and 4-2 in the second to lead 6-3. Norfolk then knotted the game up at 7-7 after the third before Wayne won the game with a 2-1 fourth inning for a final of 9-8.
Jersi Jensen singled three times, drove in two runs and scored once while Rylin Hall tripled and scored for Wayne. Kierah Haase singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Caitlyn Mostek singled, drove in a run and scored; Delaney Kruse singled and drove in two runs; Hannah Gubbels singled and drove in a run; Sammi Gubbels and Samantha Gubbels both singled and scored as Emily Jaeger accounted for a run scored.
Sammi Gubbels picked up the win in four innings allowing eight runs (five earned) off seven hits while striking out three batters and walking four.

During the night cap, both teams were scoreless early until the third when the Golden Girls scored once and outscored Wayne 2-1 in the fourth. The Dirt Devils tied the game up in the fifth with a run before Norfolk pulled away in the sixth, 5-2 winning 8-4.
Taytem Ellis singled twice and drove in a run while Jaeger doubled for Wayne. Kruse singled and scored twice; Samantha Gubbels singled and scored; Jensen singled as Hannah Gubbels scored.
Hall suffered the loss in six innings allowing eight earned runs off 11 hits while striking out three batters and walking three.

From the 16/18s first game with Yankton, Wayne scored three runs in the first, gave up a run in the second and scored once more in the third to lead 4-1. In the fourth, the Dirt Devil 16/18s accounted for 10 runs scored to win 14-1.
Rachel Hobbs singled, doubled and scored three times while Mikaela McManigal doubled, drove in two runs and scored for Wayne. Brooklyn Kruse doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Taytum Sweetland and Hope O’Reilly both singled, drove in two runs and scored; Kendall Dorey singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Kylen Robbins singled, drove in a run and scored; Hailey Schroeder added a RBI and two runs scored as Logan Miller scored.
Hobbs picked up the complete game win in four innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out six batters and walking one. The lone run she gave up was a solo homerun.

In the final game, the Dirt Devil 16/18s took the early 3-1 lead in the first and added one run in the second to lead 4-1. Yankton then poured in seven runs during the third and three more in the fourth to win 11-4.
Hobbs singled, drove in a run and scored while Miller singled and drove in two runs for Wayne. Hope O’Reilly scored twice as Dorey crossed the plate once.
Dorey suffered the loss in two innings allowing seven runs (four earned) off two hits while striking out and walking six batters each. Hobbs worked the final two innings allowing four runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
