WAYNE – After picking up a pair of dominant wins at Stanton the previous day, the Wayne Dirt Devil 12 & Under softball team was back in action Wednesday evening during a triangular.
From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne played host to both Highway 91-Dodge and the Norfolk Kelly’s.
In the opening game with Highway 91, Wayne jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first inning before adding two more runs in the second inning. The Dirt Devil 12s won 11-1 in three innings.

Emily Jaeger recorded a pair of singles, a double and three RBI while Rylin Hall added a double and two RBI to lead Wayne at the plate. Caitlyn Mostek singled twice as Hailey Schroeder, Jersi Jensen, Sammi Gubbels and Natalie Kruger all singled.
Sammi Gubbels picked up the win in three innings allowing an earned run off of two hits while striking out seven batters and walking one.
From the second contest with the Kelly’s, both teams scored two runs in the opening inning before Wayne took a 5-3 lead after the second. Norfolk tacked on another run in the third while again both teams scored two runs in the fourth. Final found the Dirt Devil 12s winning 7-6 to improve to 12-10-1 on the season.

Delaney Kruse singled three times and drove in three runs for the Dirt Devil 12s. Rachel Hobbs and Taytem Ellis both singled, doubled and drove in a run as Schroeder added a single and two RBI. Kierah Haase doubled.
Hobbs picked up the win in four innings allowing five runs (three earned) off of seven hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Sammi Gubbels allowed an earned run off of one hit.
The Dirt Devil 12s will next join the 14s and 16/18s for the Yankton Tourney this Saturday and Sunday, June 16 – 17.
