Dirt Devil 10s Sweep West Point On Road, 12s Win At Home

WAYNE – The two youngest Dirt Devil softball teams were in action Thursday evening battling with West Point.

In the 10 & Under age group, the Dirt Devils visited West Point 1 and West Point 2.

In the opening game with West Point 1, Wayne poured in three, five-run innings while only allowing five runs in the third to win 15-5.

Mackenzie Nissen paced the Dirt Devil 10s at the plate with a single and two RBI as Aubrey Russell and Charli Sievers each accounted for a single and RBI. Other RBI’s came from Joslyn Johnson and Makenna Mattison each with two as Lily Gubbels, Reagan Mcguire, Nyla Bolles, Norah Armstrong, Jordyn Gamble, Justice Olson and Caylie Hopkins all added a RBI.

Mackenzie Nissen picked up the win in an inning and two-thirds striking out four batters. Charli Sievers pitched an inning allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out three batters and walking another seven.

From the second contest with West Point 2, Wayne posted a run in the first before both teams scored a run in the third. West Point took their only lead of the night with a run in the fourth before the Dirt Devil 10s recorded a four-run fifth inning to win 6-2. With the sweep, the Dirt Devil 10s improve to 3-4 on the season.

Aubrey Russell, Charli Sievers and Nyla Bolles all recorded a single and RBI to pace Wayne at the plate. Norah Armstrong also singled while Caylie Hopkins and Joslyn Johnson accounted for a RBI.

Nissen picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out 12 batters and walking three.

Back in Wayne at the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 12s entertained West Point 1.

Wayne used an 8-1 first inning to take a commanding lead. Following four scoreless innings West Point 1 outscored Wayne in the sixth, 2-1. But the Dirt Devil 12s held on for the 9-3 victory to improve to 2-5 on the season.

Taytem Ellis recorded a single, double and two RBI for the Dirt Devil 12s as Sammi Gubbels added a single and double. Emily Jaeger singled twice and drove in two runs, Natalie Kruger singled twice, Madelyn Janke doubled and Caitlyn Mostek added a single. Jersi Jensen tacked on a single and RBI.

Rylin Hall picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing three earned runs off of seven hits while striking out 13 batters and walking two.

All four Dirt Devil softball teams (10s, 12s, 14s and 16/18s) will host the Dirt Devil Invitational starting with a few games Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday with pool play. Bracket play will be held on Sunday, June 3.
