Dirt Devil 10s Split At Pender, 12s Suffer Doubleheader Defeat At Kelly’s

PENDER/NORFOLK – The two younger Dirt Devil softball teams took to the road Tuesday evening in doubleheader competition.

The Dirt Devil 10s visited Pender while the 12U team traveled to Norfolk to take on the Kelly’s.

In the 10U doubleheader, Pender won the opening game 10-5 while the Dirt Devils answered back thanks to a 12-4 victory. The Dirt Devils began their season at 1-1.


From the 12s outings, the Norfolk Kelly’s won 8-7 and 13-3. The Dirt Devils opened their season at 0-2.

Kelly’s jumped ahead with a 2-0 first before the Dirt Devils answered with a 7-1 second. The Norfolk team then secured four runs in the third and one more run in the fourth to win 8-7.

Lily Gubbels singled twice, drove in two runs and scored while Aubrey Russel, singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored. Justice Olson and Reagan McGuire both singled and scored; Carli Canham singled as Jordyn Gamble, Caylie Hopkins and Mallory Redden all scored.

McGuire suffered the loss in three innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) off nine hits while striking out two batters and walking eight.

During game two the Kelly’s jumped ahead with a 4-1 first inning. The Norfolk team also outscored the Dirt Devils 5-1 in the second and 4-1 in the third to win 13-3.

Aubrey Russel doubled and drove in a run while McGuire doubled and scored. Hopkins singled, drove in a run and scored as Lily Gubbels singled and scored.

Gamble suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing nine runs (eight earned) off seven hits while striking out two batters and walking five. McGuire worked an inning and a third allowing four earned runs off three hits while walking three batters.

The Dirt Devil 10s will next host Pender on Thursday, June 25 at 6:30/8 p.m. while the 12s will be off until Tuesday, June 30 when they host Highway 91 at 6:30/8 p.m.
