WEST POINT – The Dirt Devil 10 Under softball team competed in District C action from West Point this past weekend.
Wayne used early wins over Fort Calhoun (5-1) and Tekamah (14-1) before suffering back-to-back losses to the Blair Chaos (6-4) and Millard Fury (2-0). Wayne is now 7-8 on the season and qualified for state with a top 10 finish in District play.
In the win over Fort Calhoun, neither team recorded a hit as Aubrey Russell, Joslyn Johnson, Jordyn Gamble and Nyla Bolles all added a RBI.
Mackenzie Nissen picked up the win in three innings allowing an earned run while striking out four batters and walking five.
From the win over Tekamah, Russell recorded two singles and four RBI for Wayne. Justice Olson and Mackenzie Nissen both singled and drove in a run as Charlie Sievers accounted for a RBI.
Nissen picked up the win in two innings allowing one run while striking out four batters and walking two. Sievers worked an inning striking out three batters and walking one.
During the loss to Blair, Sievers recorded a pair of doubles and one RBI while Justice Olson added a single and RBI. Mackenzie Nissen singled.
Nissen suffered the loss in three innings allowing six runs (two earned) off of five hits while striking out five batters and walking one.
In the loss to Millard, both teams were held to one hit as Nissen reached base off a single for Wayne.
Nissen also suffered the loss in four innings allowing two earned runs off of one hit while striking out seven batters and walking four.
The Dirt Devil 10s will next host Wisner at 6/7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12.
