HASTINGS – A pair of Dirt Devil softball teams began state tournament competition yesterday.
The Dirt Devil 10s and 12s took part in bracket play Friday.
In the 10 & Under division, Wayne suffered a 12-6 setback to Tractorhouse but fought off an elimination game by winning over the Edge (4-3). Wayne is now 14-17 on the season.
From the loss to Tractorhouse, Courtney Roeber recorded the lone single as Justice Olson accounted for a RBI.
Kinnley McGuire and Reagan McGuire combined for the loss. Kinnley allowed 12 runs (four earned) off eight hits while striking out two batters and walking three as Reagan struck out one batter.
During the win over Edge, Nyla Bolles singled and drove in a run for Wayne. Jordyn Gamble and Olson both singled as Lilian Johnson accounted for a RBI.
Reagan McGuire picked up the win in four innings allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
The Dirt Devil 10s will look to fight off another elimination game Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
From the 12 & Under bracket, Wayne won 5-1 against Plattsmouth Blue Lightning to improve to 29-10 on the season.
Kierah Haase singled, doubled and drove in a run while Delaney Kruse singled twice and drove in a run for Wayne. Taytem Ellis singled and drove in a run as Mackenzie Nissen and Jersi Jensen both singled.
Sammi Gubbels picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing one run off five hits while striking out 11 batters and walking one.
The Dirt Devil 12s will next face the York Fusion Gold 12U at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
