Dirt Devil 10s Drop Twin Bill With Norfolk Kelly’s

WAYNE – After being swept on the road earlier this week, the Dirt Devil 10 & under softball team was back at home welcoming in another Norfolk softball team.

From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne entertained the Kelly’s and suffered a pair of losses being 9-6 and 6-2. The Dirt Devil 10s fell to 2-6 on the season.

In the opening game, the Kelly’s jumped ahead thanks to a three-run opening inning while Wayne answered with a two-run second to pull within a run. The Norfolk team then outscored the Dirt Devils 5-2 in the third as Wayne never gave up winning the fourth 2-1 but falling in four innings, 9-6.

Courtney Roeber and Kinnley McGuire both singled twice, drove in a run and scored while Anna Dutcher singled twice and scored for the Dirt Devil 10s. Alexis Legler and Lilly Johnson both singled and scored; Kamden Dobbins singled and drove in a run as Gracelynn Daniels accounted for a run scored.

McGuire suffered the loss in three and two-thirds allowing nine earned runs off five hits while striking out nine batters and walking eight.

During the night cap, Norfolk again took the early lead with a five-run opening inning. The Dirt Devil 10s scored twice in the third but Norfolk added one more run in the fourth to win 6-2.

Dutcher tripled and drove in two runs while Johnson also tripled for Wayne. Roeber singled and scored as Daniels also scored.

Johnson suffered the loss in a third of an inning allowing five earned runs off one hit while walking six batters. McGuire worked three innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out nine batters and walking three.

The Dirt Devil 10s will be off until Thursday, July 9 when the team hosts the Norfolk Golden Girls at 6:30/8 p.m. The Dirt Devil 14s will be taking to the diamond today in the Wahoo Triangular. Wayne will face Wahoo at 2 p.m. and Elkhorn at 4 p.m.
