Despite Low Scoring Game, Wayne Finishes Strong In Second Half

OAKLAND – A double figure winning streak continued Thursday evening for the Wayne High boys basketball team during subdistrict competition.

From Oakland-Craig High School, #1 WHS took on #2 Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in the Class C1-6 subdistrict tourney.

WHS avenged an early season loss with the Raiders outscoring Logan View/Scribner-Snyder by eight points in the final quarter to win 34-24. Wayne High won their 11th straight improving to 20-6 while LV/SS fell to 17-9.

Logan View/Scribner-Snyder took the early 4-3 first quarter lead before Wayne tied the game up at 9-9 going into the locker room. The Blue Devils outscored the Raiders 10-8 in the third before taking control in the fourth 15-7.

Shea Sweetland paced Wayne High in scoring with 14 points while Tyrus Eischeid added 10 points and eight boards. Tanner Walling poured in eight points and six rebounds as Trevor DeBoer closed out the low-scoring contest with two points.

LV/SS was led in scoring by Connor Larson and Trystain Roseberry both with eight points.

NSAA officials will release the district brackets once all subdistricts have gone final as well as game time and locations decided among teams. Class C1-D2 district boys games can either be played on Saturday, February 29; Monday, March 2 or Tuesday, March 3.

C1-5: Aquinas Catholic defeats North Bend Central (53-52), NBC was #3 in power points

C1-6: Wayne defeated Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (34-24)

C1-7: Battle Creek defeated Pierce (40-34)

C1-8: Adams Central defeated St. Paul (56-42)

C1-9: Kearney Catholic defeated Holdrege (49-39)

C1-10: O’Neill defeated Broken Bow (62-54)

C1-11: Chase County defeated Gothenburg (50-40)

C1-12: Ogallala defeated Mitchell (64-53)
