Defending Bronco Champions Suffer Loss To Play For Third, Wayne Still Represented In Title Game

NORTH BEND – A combined record of 23-3 was featured between the two Wayne Youth Baseball Bronco teams Thursday evening in the 2018 Tri-County League Tournament.

From North Bend, #1 Wayne White took on #8 Wayne Blue. The Blues struck early with a run in the first inning before adding three runs in the third. Wayne White would answer back with a three-run fourth inning, but it was the Blues holding on for the 5-3 victory. The #8 Wayne Blue Broncos improve to 11-3 while the #1 Wayne Whites fall to 13-1.

This will be the second time in three years the Wayne Blue Broncos have made it to the championship game (runner-up, 2016 to Pierce). For the Wayne Whites, they’ve won the league tournament four out of the last five years (2017, 2015, 2014, 2013).

Wayne Blue recorded seven hits with Kaden Keller and Jase Dean both accounting for two hits.

Dean worked three and two-thirds pitching for the Blues allowing three runs on four hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Kaleb Moormeier worked the final two and a third innings.

Dom Dominguez tallied three hits while Devin Anderson collected a pair for the Wayne Whites. Alex Frank, Zach McManigal and Wyatt Heikes also hit safely.

Aiden Liston and Heikes pitched for the White.

In the other semifinal match, #2 Oakland/Craig Sluggers defeated #6 Pender, 16-8. Wayne Blue will face Oakland at 7:45 p.m. for the Bronco Championship game while the Wayne Whites will face Pender prior at 6 p.m. in the consolation round from North Bend on Saturday, July 14.

Wayne Youth Baseball continues today in the Didget Tournament.

The consolation game will feature #2 Wayne White vs. #5 West Point Patriots while #8 Wayne Blue takes on #6 Howells/Dodge for the championship game in Arlington. Both games are slated for 6:30 p.m.
