WAYNE – Spots are still open for teams to sign up for the 2020 Wayne State College Catbacker Golf Tournament with a registration deadline scheduled for July 3.

Originally scheduled for June 5, the golf outing will now be a two-day event limited to 25 teams per day on Friday, July 10 – 11.

Megan Finn, Director of Athletic Development, joined ChamberPercs on June 12 to talk about the updated two-day event for the 2020 CatBacker. The event is a scholarship fundraiser for WSC student-athletes.

Finn explained the reason of limited to 25 teams per day.

“So, essentially 100 golfers,” said Finn. “To try to help kind of maintain that social distancing. Obviously, the safety and health of our supporters are most important. But we’re really excited.”

The CatBacker Golf outing will be a four-person scramble. Costs for sponsor fees, entry fee options and other day of event options can be found on the attached brochure. The new entry deadline is by Friday, July 3.

Finn added college officials will look to keep the same format.

“We’re still going to cook the omelets in the morning and we’re going to have a meal afterwards,” Finn added. “But we’ll spread people out a little bit more and try to keep people as safe as possible. We’re still planning on having a little bit of fun.”

The tourney will now open with registration and breakfast between 7:45 – 8:45 a.m. followed by welcome and orientation from 8:45 – 9 a.m. with the shotgun start being scheduled for 9 a.m. A snack will be provided on the course between 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.; dinner from 2 – 3 p.m. as well as program and awards after 3 p.m. The schedule, meals and format may be subject to change due to COVID-19.

The CatBacker Golf Tournament will support the Wildcat coaches, student-athletes and teams. Golfers will receive 18 holes of golf, a gift, entry into door prize raffle and hole contests, four complimentary beverages, omelets cooked-to-order by WSC coaches courtesy of Michael Foods, snacks delivered on the course courtesy of Pac N Save and dinner courtesy of Pac N Save following completion of play.
