LINCOLN – The three final high school playoff championship football games were played throughout Tuesday.
From Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, the schedule showcased Class C2, C1 and B.
The opening contest featured a pair of northeast Nebraska programs in Class C2.
#3 Norfolk Catholic (13-0) shutout #12 Hartington Cedar Catholic (9-4), 23-0.
The Knights built a 9-0 first quarter lead and then went up 16-0 at half. Neither team scored in the third quarter as Norfolk Catholic added one more touchdown in fourth quarter. Final favored Norfolk Catholic, 23-0.
Class C1 showcased a pair of undefeated teams.
#2 Pierce (13-0) pulled away late and won 42-14 over #1 Aurora (12-1).
Both teams were tied at 6-6 after the first quarter and then 14-14 at the break. Pierce then scored six points in the third quarter and 22 more points in the fourth to win 42-14.
Class B was also a match-up of two undefeated teams.
#1 Bennington (13-0) picked up the 38-14 win over #2 Omaha Gross Catholic (12-1).
Both teams scored a touchdown in the opening quarter before Bennington added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 21-7 at the break. Bennington tallied seven more points in the third quarter and outscored Gross Catholic, 10-7 in the fourth. Final favored Bennington, 38-14.
