Day One State Football Championship Results, Tuesday Schedule

LINCOLN – Three champions were crowned during the NSAA State playoff football finals on Monday.

From Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Class D2, D1 and A were all in action throughout Monday.

Class D2 opened the morning with a pair of undefeated teams.

#2 Hitchcock County (13-0) took over the second half to defeat #1 Howells-Dodge (12-1) by the score of 22-12.

Hitchcock County led 8-6 after the first quarter before Howells-Dodge put up the lone second quarter points to go up 12-8 at half. Hitchcock County then scored twice in the second half thanks to eight points in the third quarter and another six points in the fourth to win 22-12.

 

Moving into the afternoon session featured the Class D1 finals with a pair of one-loss teams.

#7 Clarkson-Leigh (12-1) picked up a 48-20 victory over #5 Neligh-Oakdale (11-2).

Neligh-Oakdale led 14-0 after the first quarter before Clarkson-Leigh erupted for a 24-point second quarter and led 24-14 at the break. Clarkson-Leigh added eight points in the third quarter and outscored Neligh-Oakdale, 16-6 in the fourth.

Final favored Clarkson/Leigh over Neligh-Oakdale, 48-20.

 

Class A concluded Monday featuring a rematch in last year’s final.

#1 Omaha Westside (12-1) used a game-winning 45-yard field goal to win 43-41 over #2 Gretna (12-1).

Westside led 28-14 after the opening quarter as Gretna chipped away at the deficit with a 7-3 second quarter (trail 31-21 at half); 6-3 in the third (trail 33-27 entering fourth) and 14-9 in the fourth led 41-40 late until GW FG). Final favored Omaha Westside, 43-41.

 

Tuesday’s schedule:

Class C2 finals: #3 Norfolk Catholic (12-0) vs. #12 Hartington Cedar Catholic (9-3) at 10:15 a.m. on Monday.

 

Class C1 finals: #1 Aurora (12-0) vs. #2 Pierce (12-0) at 2:45 p.m.

 

Class B finals: #1 Bennington (12-0) vs. #2 Omaha Gross Catholic (12-0) at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
