GERING/COLUMBUS –Day one of the NSAA Girls State Golf Championships took place on three different courses Monday.
Class A golfers competed from the Norfolk Country Club; Class B from Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering while Class C took part at the Elk’s Country Club in Columbus.
Wayne High’s senior Natalie Bentjen shot a 134 on a strong windy day one. She currently sits 66th in Gering during the Class B State Championships. Bentjen will tee off at 10:50 a.m. on the back nine.
Freshman Julia Karmazin of Elkhorn North was leading the group with a five-over, 77. Scottsbluff led the team race with a 354, followed by Omaha Duchesne Academy with a 375 and Elkhorn North in third with a 387.
Senior Abigail Brodersen of Boone Central and junior Lynzi Becker of Cozad are both tied for first with a 77 after the first day in the Class C Girls State Golf Championships. Broken Bow leads the team race with a 369; followed by Lincoln Christian in second with a 386 as Heartland is third with a 390. Area team results showcased West Point-Beemer in fourth (396) while Battle Creek and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge were tied for 11th (415).
Class C area golfers:
LCC: Sarah Karnes (T-24th – 96); Jadyn Kinkaid (T-44th – 103); Sidney Groene (T-47th – 104); Hope Swanson (T-66th – 112) and Delaney Hall (T-74th – 115).
West Point-Beemer golfers: Brook Diekemper (T-9th – 85); Kailey Johnson (16th – 91); Shelbie Woerman (T-57th – 108); Allie Boell (T-66th – 112) and Almarosa Urquidez (87th – 121).
Battle Creek golfers: Megan Lutt (T-20th – 93); Emma Wilkinson (43rd – 102); Raina Lade (T-51st – 106); Molly Heimes (73rd – 114) and Joslyn Hrabanek (T-77th – 116).
Other area girls golf results came from Kaylin Gaughenbaugh of O’Neill (T-24th – 96); Delayne Sudbeck of Hartington Cedar Catholic (T-27th – 97); Carly Thramer of Norfolk Catholic (T-49th – 105) and Alena Peters of Pierce (T-66th – 112).
Day two Class C area golfers tee off times.

North Platte led day one with a 324 in the Class A team race; followed by Lincoln Pius X with a 337 and Millard North in third with a 345. Sophomore Nicole Kolbas of Pius shot the individual low with a 71.
Day two will conclude this year’s state competition on Tuesday at the same courses at 9 a.m.
