Day One Football Champions Crowned, Day Two Schedule

LINCOLN – Day one is in the books for the 2021 NSAA State Football Championships.

From Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, two eight-man state titles were awarded alongside the Class B final in the evening.

To open the day in Class D1, #5 Howells-Dodge improved to 13-0 with a 42-12 victory over #10 Cross County who fell to 11-2. Howells-Dodge jumped ahead thanks to a 20-0 second quarter before outscoring Cross County, 22-12 in the second half.

In the afternoon for Class D2, #7 Kenesaw stopped #1 Sandhills/Thedford late to hold onto the 46-40 victory and improve to 13-0 while Sandhills/Thedford fell to 12-1.

Closing out Monday evening in the Class B Final, #1 Bennington capped off a perfect 13-0 season thanks to a 42-14 win over #2 Aurora who ended their year at 10-3. Bennington jumped ahead 35-7 at the half and both teams scored a touchdown in the third quarter.

Tuesday’s Football Championship slate will open with Class C1 at 10:15 a.m. featuring #9 Pierce (10-2) vs. #11 Columbus Lakeview (10-2); the Class C2 final will follow with #1 Norfolk Catholic (11-1) vs. #2 Archbishop Bergan (12-0) at 2:45 p.m. and Class A between #2 Omaha Westside (12-0) and #5 Gretna (11-1) at 7:15 p.m. from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

The six-man state champion was crowned last Friday, November 19 at Cope Stadium from Nebraska-Kearney. #2 Cody-Kilgore defeated #1 Potter-Dix, 65-37. Cody-Kilgore improved to 12-0 as Potter-Dix fell to 11-1.
