LINCOLN – As the Cornhusker Torch Run began in late May, the virtual format includes all 93 counties being divided into four regions.

According to a release from the Nebraska Sports Council, Region 1 will last now until June 5 and includes runners from 11 Nebraska panhandle counties participating locally by running at least one mile in their county and submitting a photo.

The 2022 CSG Torch Run is sponsored by the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association and began on Monday, May 23.

Each virtual format from the four regions is open for a two-week window allowing runners to complete their mile.

Region 2 encompasses 25 west-central counties from June 6 – June 19, east-central counties run June 20 – July 3 and eastern counties July 4 – 17.

Also, the in-person format includes six legs across the state. The CSG Torch Run in-person routes will begin on Saturday, June 4 with a leg between Hastings and Kearney. Similar to Olympic tradition, runners will relay the torch in one-mile segments as it passes through the communities.

Live routes will revolve around some of Nebraska’s favorite June events, including: Heritage Day in Kearney on June 4; West Nebraska All-Star Game in Scottsbluff on June 11; NEBRASKAland DAYS Rodeo on June 16 in North Platte; Laugh-and-a-Half marathon/Bloomfield Days on June 18 in Norfolk/Bloomfield; Tour de Nebraska on June 24 in Ord and CSG Night at Haymarket Park on June 30 in Lincoln.

Those wishing to carry the torch in person may choose from the six routes during registration. Schedulers will use runners’ addresses to make assignments as convenient as possible, unless otherwise directed. Miles will be scheduled according to Nebraska Department of Roads mile marker numbers, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The CSG Torch Run serves as an annual precursor to the Cornhusker State Games, a multi-sport festival for athletes of all ages/abilities scheduled for July 15 – 24 in Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, Columbus, Grand Island and other Nebraska communities. Learn more at cornhuskerstategames.com.
