Cross Division Weekend Road Trip Slated For Wayne State Basketball

BEMIDJI/CROOKSTON, MN – For the first time this season, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s basketball teams will take to the road in conference play competing cross division.

WSC will open a segment of three consecutive road NSIC games with each playing a non-conference game next week.

First on the schedule will be a road contest at Bemidji State University on Friday, December 13 at 5:30/7:30 p.m. followed by playing at Minnesota Crookston Saturday at 3:30/5:30 p.m.

Pregame coverage on the Wildcat Sports Network (Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9) and waynedailynews.com is set for 5 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Wayne State women had their five-game winning streak come to an end after defeating Upper Iowa 86-59 but falling to undefeated Winona State 76-73 this past weekend. WSC is 6-2 overall (2-1 NSIC).

The Beavers are 4-3 (1-2 NSIC) while UCM enters the weekend 1-6 (0-3 NSIC).

Last season, WSC defeated Bemidji State 85-71 and Minnesota Crookston 88-83 both in Wayne.

 

The Wildcat men are in search for their first win away from Rice Auditorium as they sit 5-6 overall (2-1 NSIC) after defeating Upper Iowa 88-69 and Winona State 70-63 last weekend.

Bemidji State is currently 4-3 (1-2 NSIC) while Minnesota Crookston is 6-3 (2-1 NSIC).

A year ago, the ‘Cats topped BSU 75-59 and the Golden Eagles 72-52 at Rice.

Final non-conference games will be played on Wednesday, December 18 for both teams which were postponed following late November weather. The Wayne State women will host Mount Marty College at 6 p.m. while the men will visit Nebraska-Kearney at 6 p.m. from Kearney HS.
