WAYNE – A pair of Wayne State College cross country runners were recognized by the league.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics Office, junior Will McGonigal was tabbed as the NSIC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
The Hailey, Idaho native crossed the finish line on the 8,000-meter course first out of a field of 70 runners with a time of 25:19, just under 20 seconds ahead of second place Camden Sesna of Concordia.
It was a career-best finish for McGonigal, who helped the Wildcats to a second-place team finish in the meet run at Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota.
On the women’s side, senior Allie Rosener from Hartington collected a top performance recognition by the conference following her fifth-place finish in the Morningside Invite. She crossed the finish line a time of 19:19 on the 5,000-meter course as she helped WSC to third place team finish.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will next host the Wildcat Classic on Friday, September 24 at the Wayne Country Club at 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
