Class D1, D2 Football Playoffs Continue Wednesday

LINCOLN – Second round playoff football action is back Wednesday for eight-man teams across the state as 32 teams in both Class D1 and D2 were narrowed to 16 in each class.

Class D1 northeast Nebraska games: #1 Howells-Dodge (9-0) vs. #8 Lutheran High Northeast (6-3) at 6 p.m. in Howells. HD defeated #16 Homer, 52-12 and LHNE won over #9 Lourdes Central Catholic, 56-52.

#12 Creighton (6-3) vs. #4 Osceola-High Plains (7-2) at 4 p.m. Creighton won at #5 Wisner-Pilger (56-32) as Osceola-High Plains topped #13 Elkhorn Valley 73-12.

Class D2 northeast Nebraska games: #5 Plainview (8-1) at #4 Johnson-Brock (7-2) at 4 p.m. The Pirates topped #12 Randolph 56-6 while Johnson-Brock won against #13 Wynot (62-14).

#2 Bloomfield (9-0) vs. #7 Hartington-Newcastle (6-3) at 6 p.m. Bloomfield won against #15 Pender (54-16) and HNS defeated #10 Mead (75-28).

The biggest upset in eight-man football came in Class D2 when #14 Mead, previously 3-5 won at #3 Sandhills/Thedford previously 8-0 by the score of 18-12. Mead will have to travel to Sargent for a 6 p.m. kickoff as #11 Twin Loup won at #6 Axtell (34-0) last week.

The eight-man quarterfinal round is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12 with the state semifinals being played on Monday, November 18. The Class D1 state title game will be played on Monday, November 25 at 10:15 a.m. and D2 that same day at 2:45 p.m. from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
