OMAHA – Several area wrestlers competed in their opening day of action for the 2021 NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Class D.
From CHI Omaha, Class D closed out day one Wednesday night.
Plainview leads all Class D teams with 57 points followed by Elkhorn Valley in second with 40.5 points entering day two.
Winside saw four of their six wrestlers advance to the final day led by Cayden Ellis (120) and Gabe Escalante (145) in the semifinals while Jacoby Mann (126) and Art Escalante (138) will start with a third consolation match. Maddox Magwire (132) and Mason Topp (182) were eliminated. The Wildcats were sitting sixth place with 33.5 points in the team standings after Wednesday’s competition.
Creighton: RJ Wilmes (152) advanced to the third consolation round while Same Vortherms was eliminated.
GACC: Cash Meier (182) advanced to the third consolation round while Ethan Baumert (152), George Fraher (285) and Dax Doernemann (285) were eliminated.
Pender: Layne Sturek (106) advanced to the third consolation round while Jacob Bruns (195) and Colton Sanderson (220) were both eliminated.
Plainview: advanced seven of their nine to the final day led by Eli Lanham (106), Scout Ashburn (120), Keegan Mosel (138) and Alizae Mejia (170) in the semifinals. Kyler Mosel (126), Tanner Frahm (132) and Devon Tunender (152) will compete in the third consolation round while Jordan Mosel (126) and Lucas Hammer (182) were both eliminated.
Scribner-Snyder: Both Jaxon Smutz (113) and Chandler Carrier (220) were eliminated.
Stanton: Both Damien Erickson (138) and Sutton Pohlman (170) advanced to the third consolation round.
Class A/D wrestling teams will return to the mat on Thursday, February 18 for their semifinal, consolation round three, consolation semifinals, third place and fifth place matches. Class A will compete from 9 a.m. until noon with Class D wrestling from 1 – 5 p.m. After the facility is cleared, finals for Classes A and D will close out Thursday night at 7 p.m.
Class B/C wrestlers will be in action on Friday and Saturday, February 19 – 20.
