Class C, B Senior American Legion Baseball Weekend Scores

WISNER/BROKEN BOW – A pair of Senior American Legion baseball state tournaments began over the weekend.

From Wisner City Park in Wisner, Class C teams took part in a double-elimination tournament while Class B teams continued their postseason at Paul Brown Field in Broken Bow.

In Wisner on Saturday, Pender defeated Shelby-Osceola-Stromsburg, 10-1 (six innings); Syracuse won 7-4 over Valentine; Malcolm topped Battle Creek 5-4 thanks to a four-run seventh and DCB defeated Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells, 9-1 (five innings). During Sunday’s elimination round, SOS knocked out Valentine 14-5 (five innings) while Battle Creek eliminated the host Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells, 10-2 (six innings). In the winner’s bracket, Syracuse topped Pender, 13-9 and Malcolm edged out DCB, 2-1.

Monday’s elimination round will open with Pender vs. Battle Creek at 2:30 p.m. followed by DCB vs. SOS at 5 p.m. and close with the two undefeated teams in tourney play of Syracuse vs. Malcolm at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Wisner.

The 2022 Class C Senior American Legion baseball championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 at 5 p.m.

In Broken Bow on Saturday, Waverly defeated Columbus Lakeview, 8-5; Ogallala won 8-6 thanks to a seven-run top of the seventh over Valparaiso; Hickman topped Blair, 8-2 and the host Broken Bow defeated Minden, 16-5 (five innings). During Sunday’s elimination round, Lakeview knocked out Valparaiso, 9-1 (six innings) while Blair defeated Minden, 9-1 (six innings). In the winner’s bracket, Waverly won 17-9 over Ogallala and also used a 10-run inning as Hickman topped Broken Bow, 10-2 (six innings).

Monday’s elimination round will open with Ogallala vs. Blair at noon followed by the host Broken Bow vs. Columbus Lakeview at 3 p.m. and conclude with the two undefeated teams in the tournament of Waverly vs. Hickman at 6 p.m. tonight in Broken Bow.

The Class B Senior American Legion baseball championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3 in Broken Bow.
