HASTINGS – As Class B high school softball teams are in action early this week for their subdistrict tournaments, those competing in Class A and C found out their official district pairings Monday.
According to a release on the NSAA page, Class A and C softball teams will compete in district competition on Wednesday, October 9 – Thursday, October 10.
Area teams in the C-5 District will compete from the Pierce Softball Complex. The host Pierce will welcome in Boone Central/Newman Grove, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Highway 91, Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay, O’Neill and Ponca.
C5 District Softball Pierce 10-9_10-10-19
Guardian Angels Central Catholic (22-3) has earned the #1 seed and will play at noon against the winner of either #4 O’Neill (9-10) vs. #5 Ponca (8-14) who will play at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The other 10 a.m. contest will feature #3 Boone Central/Newman Grove (15-12) vs. #6 Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay (0-18) while that winner will face the winner of either #2 Highway 91 (14-9) who takes on #7 Pierce (1-21) at noon also Wednesday.
An elimination game will be played at 2 p.m. along with a winner’s bracket game and two more elimination games will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Thursday games will open at 10 a.m. with the C-5 semifinal contest and an elimination game before another elimination game is scheduled for noon and the championship game is slated for 2 p.m. Thursday. An if-needed game will follow if the undefeated team losses their first postseason game.
In Class A, Norfolk High earned the #2 seed with a 21-12 in the A-4 District hosted by #1 Gretna and South Sioux City will compete in the A-1 District as the #5 seed with a 4-23 record hosted by #1 Papillion-LaVista.
