Christoffersen Records Seventh-Best NCAA DII Hammer Throw, Named NSIC Field Athlete Of The Week

WAYNE – Following an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw this past Saturday, a Wayne State College men’s track and field athlete has been tabbed with the first weekly honor.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, Cole Christoffersen was announced Monday afternoon as the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Christoffersen, a graduate student from Lyons (Lyons-Decatur Northeast HS), was the top Division II thrower with a third place finish in the hammer throw at 189’ 11” during the Wildcat Outdoor Classic on Friday, March 25. His mark is also an NCAA provisional mark that currently ranks seventh in NCAA Division II this season.

Sophomore Gabe Peitz from Wakefield (Wakefield HS), was also listed as a top male track performer placing runner-up in the 800-meter run at the Wildcat Classic in a time of 1:59.28. He holds the top NSIC time in the 800-meter run so far this season.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team will next compete on Saturday, April 2 at the South Dakota Early Bird Invite in Vermillion, South Dakota.

The week one NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week is junior distance runner Jacob Jensen from Minot State University.
