WAYNE/EMPORIA, KS – With flooding damage and field conditions on the diamond, the Wayne State College baseball and softball teams will have more time and date changes to their schedule.
After dropping three straight on a neutral field earlier this weekend in conference play, the Wildcat baseball team (9-7/0-3 NSIC) will open their home schedule on Friday, March 22.
WSC is slated to host Bemidji State (1-13/0-3 NSIC) who is on a 13-game losing streak. The doubleheader with BSU will begin at noon from the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex. The twin bill with the Beavers was originally set for March 20, but had to be moved due to wet field conditions and lack of available fields in the Omaha Metro area.
Wayne State is still on for their regularly scheduled weekend series with Minnesota Duluth (4-7/2-1 NSIC). Saturday games will also begin at noon followed by a nine-inning game Sunday at noon from the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
The Wayne State College softball team will also be having a change in their scheduled tournament.
Announced Wednesday morning by WSC head coach Shelli Manson, due to flooding in the St. Joseph, Missouri area the Hy-Vee Classic hosted by Missouri Western has been cancelled.
The Wildcats (8-6) and on a five-game winning streak will now compete in the Emporia State Softball Classic on Thursday, March 21 – Saturday, March 23 in Emporia, Kansas.
WSC will open with Washburn at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. contest against the host, Emporia State Thursday; Friday’s lone game against Northeastern State at 12:30 p.m. and closing out Saturday facing Pittsburg State at 12:30 p.m. and Central Missouri at 3 p.m.
The NSIC season will get underway for the Wildcat softball team next Tuesday, March 26 at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota starting at 3 p.m.
