Wayne High Boys, Auburn Girls Crowned Elkhorn Valley Bank Northeast Nebraska Shootout Champions

WAYNE – Championship Thursday moved into the final day of the 2021 Elkhorn Valley Bank Northeast Nebraska Shootout Wayne Holiday Tournament.

Loser’s bracket games moved back to Wayne High School while winner’s bracket games transitioned to Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College.

Girls Division loser’s bracket: Wayne High School

Seventh place game: Homer defeated Winnebago, 64-49. Homer improves to 4-5 while the Indians fell to 2-9.

Fifth place game: Pender defeated LCC, 64-43. Pender improved to 8-3 while LCC fell to 5-5.

 

Girls Division winner’s bracket: Wayne State College

Consolation game: Wayne High holds off Hartington Cedar Catholic, 41-36. Wayne High improves to 5-5 while the Trojans fell to 2-8.

Championship game: Pierce defeated Auburn, 50-42. Pierce improved to 7-1 while Auburn fell to 6-3.  (rematch of last year’s final where Auburn won)

 

Boys Division loser’s bracket: Wayne High School

Seventh place game: Homer defeated Pender, 31-29. Homer improved to 3-6 while Pender fell to 0-10.

 

Fifth place game: LCC defeated Winnebago, 64-59. LCC is now 9-1 while Winnebago fell to 5-5.

 

Boys Division winner’s bracket: Wayne State College

Consolation game: Auburn defeated Pierce, 42-33. Auburn improved to 7-2 while Pierce fell to 4-4. (rematch of last year’s finals where Auburn won)

Championship game: Wayne High used a Brandon Bartos three-pointer with 4.4 seconds left to win 32-31. WHS, who finished with 19 made three’s in three days are now 10-0 while HCC, who made 17 three-pointers in three days, fell to 6-2. (rematch of last year’s 3rd place game where Wayne won)
