Championship Saturday Is Set For State Volleyball Tournament, Area Playoff Football Teams Advance To Semifinal Round

LINCOLN – With high school volleyball teams punching their ticket to the Bob Devaney Sports Center and football teams looking to advance to the next round, it was a busy Friday for NSAA fall sports.

A pair of northeast Nebraska high school volleyball teams were in action early Friday morning during the D1 semifinal round.

From the Pinnacle Bank Arena south court, #1 Norfolk Catholic (30-4) won in four sets over #4 BDS (20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22) while #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic (26-10) secured a 3-0 sweep against #3 Maywood-Hayes Center (25-17, 25-20, 25-15).

#1 Norfolk Catholic and #7 Cedar Catholic will meet for the fourth time this season.

The Class D1 state finals will be at 11 a.m. from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on Saturday, November 5.

Earlier this season, Norfolk Catholic won 2-0 over HCC during the Scotus Invite on September 3; Norfolk Catholic also won in four sets at Cedar Catholic on September 13 while the Trojans recently won in four sets over Norfolk Catholic on October 25 during the D1-4 Subdistrict finals in Norfolk.

Moving to playoff high school football in the quarterfinal round, Class C1 featured a rematch from last year’s championship game.

#2 Pierce (11-0) won 33-23 over #7 Columbus Lakeview (8-3) and will next face #6 Adams Central (won 31-14 over #3 McCook).

In Class C2:

#3 Norfolk Catholic (11-0) won 62-42 over #11 Lincoln Lutheran (7-4) and will next face #2 Ord (won 35-28 over #7 Oakland-Craig).

#9 Battle Creek (9-2) won 28-20 over #1 Hastings St. Cecilia (10-1) and will next face #12 Hartington Cedar Catholic.

#12 Hartington Cedar Catholic (8-3) secured a 10-9 victory in overtime against #4 Malcolm (10-1) and will next face #9 Battle Creek.

In Class D1, #3 Stanton (11-0) won 52-24 over #11 Nebraska Christian (8-3) and will next face #7 Clarkson-Leigh (won 46-18 over #15 Weeping Water).

In Class D2, #6 Bloomfield (10-1) won 34-22 over #3 Wynot (9-2) and will next face #2 Hitchcock County (won 58-6 over #10 Elm Creek).

Class A.

Class B.

Six-Man.

Semifinal football games will be played next Friday, November 11.
