Cedar Catholic Win Fifth Set In Extras, Hartington-Newcastle Four-Set Winner On Road

WAUSA/CROFTON – A pair of Class D1 high school volleyball teams took to the road for an early week battle with conference showdowns.

From Crofton, the Warriors hosted Hartington Cedar Catholic in a Mid State Conference match while Wausa entertained Hartington-Newcastle for a Lewis & Clark contest.

Cedar Catholic held on for the five-set victory (26-24, 25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 16-14) while HNS won in four sets (25-18, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15). The Trojans are now 4-3 while the Wildcats improved to 3-4.

For Hartington-Newcastle, double-doubles came from Abbe Morten with 16 kills and 10 digs to go along with four service aces and three solo blocks, Kayden Jueden with 15 kills and 15 digs as well as Brianna Hopping adding 24 set assist, 10 digs and four service aces. Keanna Korth posted 13 digs and seven kills while Autumn Lammers tacked on 13 digs and three aces while Alivia Morten tallied 10 set assists.

Cedar Catholic will next compete in the Wakefield-Allen Invite Thursday while HNS will be off until Saturday, September 14 visiting the Creighton Tournament.
