Cedar Catholic Volleyball Sweeps Triangular Opponents, HNS Suffers Four Set Defeat

RANDOLPH/CROFTON – Both Hartington schools took to the road as they began their seasons Thursday evening.

For the Hartington Cedar Catholic Trojans, they competed in the Randolph triangular while Hartington-Newcastle visited Crofton.

HCC swept both opponents of Homer (25-10, 25-18) and the host Cardinals (25-12, 25-15). Cedar Catholic opens their season at 2-0 while Randolph topped Homer to split at 1-1 and Homer fell to 0-2.

In the match against Homer, Abby Hochstein posted a team-high 11 kills to go along with four digs. Kenlee Goeden and Brynn Wortmann both added four kills. Aiden Wortmann tallied 20 set assists while Megan Heimes paced the team in digs with seven. Heimes, Hochstein and Aiden Wortmann all tacked on two aces with Laney Kathol adding one.

From the match against Randolph. Hochstein again was the team leader with nine kills followed by Aiden Wortman with four and three each by Brynn Wortmann and Kenlee Goeden. Aiden Wortmann also paced the team with 18 set assists along with five digs and another five from Heimes. Brynn Wortmann and Heimes both tacked on two service aces with Tori Arens and Hochstein adding one each.

 

Hartington-Newcastle took their match to four sets against the host Crofton, but it was the Warriors finishing on top (25-12, 20-25, 27-25, 25-18) to open their season at 1-0 while the Wildcats fell to 0-1.

Double-doubles came from Kayden Jueden with 20 kills and 14 digs while Brianna Hopping added 12 set assists and 12 digs. Abbe Morten posted eight kills and 16 digs; Alivia Morten tacked on 18 set assists with Autumn Lammers and Keanna Korth both recording 12 digs.

Hartington-Newcastle will next compete in the Winside Quad Saturday while Cedar Catholic will visit Lutheran High Northeast on Tuesday, September 3.
