Cedar Catholic, Hartington-Newcastle To Meet In D1-3 Subdistrict Final

PONCA –Both Hartington Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle were in action in the same location to begin postseason play during the D1-3 Subdistrict.

From Ponca Public School, #5 Niobrara/Verdigre won in five sets over #4 Wausa before #1 Hartington Cedar Catholic topped N/V in straight sets (25-9, 25-7, 25-10). The other half of the bracket favored #2 Hartington-Newcastle sweep #3 Creighton (25-16, 25-13, 25-9).

Hartington-Newcastle saw two individuals post double-doubles from Kayden Jueden with 18 kills and 15 digs while Abbe Morten followed with 12 kills and 18 digs. Both had two solo blocks and three service aces each. Erin Folkers finished with 10 kills and six digs while set assist leaders went to Brianna Hopping with 22 assists and four digs as Alivia Morten tallied 14 assists and seven digs.

Tuesday’s D1-3 subdistrict final will be played at 7 p.m. between Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle.


D1-1 (Oakland-Craig) results: #4 Walthill won in four sets over #5 Omaha Nation where #1 Archbishop Bergan swept Walthill. #3 Pender swept #2 Omaha Christian Academy. Archbishop Bergan vs. Pender at 7 p.m. will be played Tuesday.

D1-4 (Battle Creek) results: #4 Osmond swept #5 Plainview; #1 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge swept Osmond and #2 Elkhorn Valley won in five sets over #3 Neligh-Oakdale. LCC vs. Elkhorn Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday will be the subdistrict championship match.
