HARTINGTON – In a rematch from last year’s Class C2 championship match, Hartington Cedar Catholic and Superior met during semifinal action Friday late afternoon.
Round two of the 2018 NSAA State Volleyball Championships took place from the two courts of the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
#5 HCC got their revenge on #1 Superior with a sweep (25-22, 25-19, 25-17). Cedar Catholic improves to 30-4 as Superior is now 30-3.
Last year Superior won the championship match over the Trojans in five sets.
It was another triple-double by Maddie Wieseler for HCC with 10 kills, 15 set assists and 13 digs. Jada Cattau posted a team-high 13 kills, Aiden Wortman picked up 14 assists and nine digs as Megan Heimes tallied a team-high 18 digs.
Brianna Miller recorded three blocks, two from Wieseler and Kenlee Goeden along with single blocks by Abby Hochstein and Cattau. Service aces came from Cattau, Miller and Wieseler.
#5 Hartington Cedar Catholic will now play in the Class C2 Championship match Saturday against #3 Blue Hill at 1 p.m. from the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Blue Hill won in five sets over #2 Stanton in five setes (17-25, 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 16-14). The third-place match is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Lincoln Northeast featuring #1 Superior and #2 Stanton.
Another northeast Nebraska team, #4 Wynot suffered a sweep by #1 Ewing (25-13, 25-13, 25-17). Wynot will face #3 Muller in the Class D2 consolation game Saturday at 11 a.m. from Lincoln Northeast.
