BRLD Advances To District Final

BANCROFT – Girls high school basketball teams moved one win closer to the 2021 NSAA State Tournament following the subdistrict championship round Thursday.

From Bancroft-Rosalie Schools in Bancroft, #1 BRLD took on #2 Pender in the C2-4 Subdistrict.

Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons Decatur took a three-point lead into the second half and never trailed in the final 16 minutes holding on for a 47-39 victory. The Wolverines won their 12th straight improving to 19-4 while Pender fell to 16-8

Pender took the early lead of 10-8 before BRLD won the second quarter battle, 12-7. The Wolverines led 20-17 at the break. BRLD then outscored the Pendragons 12-8 in the third and 15-14 in the fourth to again win 47-39.

Pender was led in scoring by junior Caitlyn Heise with 11 points while senior Ashley Ostrand added nine points. Freshman Avery Wegner finished with six points, senior Zoey Lehmkuhl had five points as senior Carson Miller and sophomore Olyvia Nelson both scored four points.

Pender finished 16-25 from the foul line.

BRLD leaders were junior Jordan Snyder with 19 points followed by senior Caragan Tietz with eight points. Senior Isabel Freemont poured in seven poitns, senior Megan Beutler added five points, senior Aubrey Berg had four points as sophomore McKenzie Murphy and junior Alyssa Buchholz both had two points.

The Wolverines went 15-21 from the charity stripe.

BRLD will advance to the girls district final competition set for Friday, February 26 with games to be released by the NSAA.

C1-6 Girls Subdistrict (Pierce): #5 Wayne defeated #4 Homer, 53-40 on Monday before #1 Pierce defeated WHS, 39-29 on Tuesday. The other semifinal on Tuesday saw #2 Winnebago defeat #3 Battle Creek, 60-55. Winnebago defeated Pierce, 33-23 on Thursday.

C2-3 Subdistrict (West Point): #1 GACC defeated #4 Tekamah-Herman, 84-33 while #2 Howells-Dodge defeated #3 Wisner-Pilger, 59-48. GACC defeated Howells-Dodge, 67-26 on Thursday.

C2-4 Subdistrict (Bancroft): #1 BRLD defeated #4 Omaha Nation, 72-35 while #2 Pender defeated #3 Wakefield, 69-47. BRLD defeated Pender, 47-39 on Thursday.

C2-5 Subdistrict (Crofton): #4 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge defeated #5 Creighton, 46-41 on Monday while #1 Crofton defeated LCC, 71-41 while the other semifinal on Tuesday favored #3 North Central over #2 Ponca, 40-35. Crofton defeated North Central, 56-24 on Thursday.

D1-3 Subdistrict (Humphrey): #4 Osmond defeated #5 Wausa, 45-40 on Monday as #1 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family defeated Osmond, 69-26 on Tuesday. The other semifinal on Tuesday saw #2 Plainview defeat #3 Tri County Northeast, 53-43. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family defeated Plainview, 72-40 on Thursday.

D1-4 Subdistrict (Hartington): #5 Niobrara/Verdigre defeated #4 Bloomfield, 49-46 on Monday while #1 Hartington Cedar Catholic defeated Niobrara/Verdigre, 71-50 on Tuesday. The other semifinal on Tuesday saw #3 Boyd County defeat #2 Hartington-Newcastle, 47-45. HCC defeated Boyd County, 50-32 on Thursday.

D2-5 (Wynot): #4 Winside defeated #5 Walthill in Walthill, 63-23 on Monday while #1 Wynot defeated Winside, 58-26 on Tuesday. The other semifinal on Tuesday favored #2 Randolph over #3 Santee, 55-46. Wynot defeated Randolph, 53-23 onThursday.
