ALBION – Eight of the 12 teams who competed in the Boone Central Girls Golf Invite over the weekend posted complete scores as a Wayne golfer placed in the top 10.
From the Albion Country Club, the host Boone Central held off Columbus Lakeview 394-402 to win their home invite.
Three of the top 15 golfers were also from Boone Central led by the winner Abby Brodersen who shot an 82 on the 18-hole course. Wayne High was led by Natalie Bentjen’s 101 to place eighth.
Other team scores came from Battle Creek who finished third with a 413, followed by Columbus Scotus in fourth with a 422, Hartington Cedar Catholic placed fifth with a 447, O’Neill (sixth – 448), Pierce (seventh – 452) and Stanton (eighth – 563). Clarkson/Leigh, Shelby Rising City, Wayne and West Holt also had individual golfers compete on the day.
Battle Creek medalists came from Megan Lutt in third with a 94 and Emmah Benson with a 102 to finish 10th. For HCC, Delayne Sudbeck shot a 98 to finish sixth while Pierce’s Keli Shermer rounded out the top 15 golfers with a 108.
Other Wayne High results came from Riley Haschke with a 116 and Trinity Surber shot a 148.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next host their second invite (Richard Metteer Invite) of the season this Thursday, September 24 from the Wayne Country Club. Participating teams include Archbishop Bergan, Battle Creek, Boone Central, Cedar Catholic High School, Columbus Lakeview, Columbus Scotus, Elkhorn Valley, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic, O’Neill, Pierce, Schuyler, South Sioux City and Winnebago. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.
