Blue Devils Use Three-Run Homerun From Korth, Jacob Kneifl Complete Game Shutout During Road Victory

WEST POINT – With a few games remaining on the schedule this week into next, Tuesday’s varsity baseball outing marked the final game that counted towards district seedings as the Class B postseason begins late next week.

From Anderson Field in Neligh Park in West Point, the Wayne High baseball team visited Guardian Angels Central Catholic/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer during the second meeting of the season. The Patriots won at Wayne on April 5, 1-0.

This time around Wayne scored two runs in the opening inning off a two RBI single from sophomore Brooks Kneifl. Following three scoreless innings, senior Reid Korth recorded a three-run homerun in the fifth to push the Blue Devil lead to 5-0. Junior James Dorcey also scored on a passed ball in the seventh as Wayne High went onto win 6-0.

WHS snapped a two-game losing streak improving to 10-6 while GACC/SS/West Point-Beemer dropped their third straight falling to 5-8.

Korth finished with a single, three-run homerun and another run scored while Brooks Kneifl singled twice and drove in two runs for Wayne. Senior Jacob Kneifl singled twice and scored twice; Dorcey singled and scored twice as juniors Max Miller and Toby Braun both singled.

Jacob Kneifl (98 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout win allowing four hits while striking out 10 batters and walking two.

 

Senior Jaryn Smeal singled twice for the Patriots while senior Cody Steffen and sophomore Keaton Persson both singled.

Senior Brenden Rief (68 pitches) suffered the loss in four innings allowing two earned runs off five hits while striking out five batters. Junior Coy Kreikemeier worked the final three innings allowing four runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out two batters.

The Wayne High baseball team will next visit Adams Central on Thursday, April 29 while the Patriots will compete at the Twin River triangular with Adams Central on Friday, April 30.
