Blue Devils, Trojans To Be Heard On KTCH

WAYNE/NORFOLK – A pair of top 10 football showdowns will take place in the Class C1 and D1 ranks that will be carried on KTCH.

First, Wayne High will host Ashland-Greenwood on Friday, September 18 at 7 p.m. from Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College. Then, an eight-man showdown will feature Wakefield at Lutheran High Northeast on Saturday, September 19 at 1 p.m. from Veteran’s Memorial Park in Norfolk.

Pregame coverage of Friday night’s game will begin at 6:40 p.m. and Saturday’s game at 12:40 p.m. Both will be aired on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com.

It’ll be a Class C1 match-up featuring a pair of 3-0 teams as Wayne High is rated #1 in the Omaha World Herald and #4 in the Lincoln Journal Star. Ashland-Greenwood is #3 and #6 in the respective rankings.

Wayne High has won at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (14-10); at West Point-Beemer (35-19) and recently at home vs. Columbus Lakeview (14-11). The Bluejays have home wins over Auburn (21-20) and Arlington (22-12) in-between a road victory at Milford (42-14).

The 3-0 Wakefield Trojans are #5 in the Omaha World Herald and #7 in the Lincoln Journal Star while the 3-0 Lutheran High Northeast Eagles jumped into the OWH rankings at #8.

Wakefield has home wins over GACC (36-22) and Stanton (50-14) in-between a road victory at Wisner-Pilger (56-20). The Eagles have road wins at Madison (66-14) and GACC (44-36) in-between a home win vs. West Holt (66-12).

After an undefeated regular season (9-0), Ashland-Greenwood won their first round game over Cozad (53-14) but dropped a 28-13 decision at Wayne High during the quarterfinal round. The Blue Devils made it to the semifinal round before falling to the eventual champion of Wahoo.

The Trojans defeated Lutheran High Northeast last year in Wakefield, 58-24 and the year prior in Norfolk, 70-66.

Wakefield was again ineligible for the playoffs last season as Lutheran High Northeast split their Class D1 playoff record. The Eagles opened the first round with a 56-52 win over Lourdes Central Catholic but lost 56-22 to Howells-Dodge in the second round ending their season at 6-4.
