WAYNE – Two weeks after the Wayne High volleyball team saw their season come to an end during the first round of the state tourney, four individuals were listed as All-Conference and honorable mention.
The Mid State Conference volleyball information was released Wednesday morning where Lauren Pick, Kiara Krusemark and Emily Armstrong collected All-Conference honors as Hailey Backer was tabbed honorable mention of Wayne.
Four Mid State Conference volleyball teams qualified for state with Hartington Cedar Catholic going the furthest placing fourth in the Class D1 bracket. #6 HCC won their opening round game over #3 Chambers/Wheeler Central in straight sets before falling to #2 Diller-Odell in straight sets and #1 Pleasanton in five sets during the consolation round.
Wayne, Norfolk Catholic and Battle Creek all competed in the subdistrict round with all three qualifying for the Class C1 state tourney. #4 Wayne lost in four sets to #5 Broken Bow; #7 Norfolk Catholic was swept by #2 Wahoo and #8 Battle Creek lost in straight sets to #1 St. Paul.
Of the 14 Mid State All-Conference selections, Battle Creek had four selections; followed by Wayne and Norfolk Catholic (three); Hartington Cedar Catholic (two) as well as GACC and O’Neill (one each).
Honorable mention numbers featured 17 volleyball athletes led by four from Pierce while Norfolk Catholic, GACC, Crofton, Boone Central/Newman Grove, Hartington Cedar Catholic and O’Neill (all with two) and one from Wayne.
