Blue Devils Go 2-0 In Pool C, Wakefield-Allen Suffers Two Defeats During Pool D Competition

PENDER – Wayne High competed in Pool C of the Northeast Nebraska Volleyball Classic Thursday evening.

From Pender’s auxiliary gym, Wayne High will be represented in the Gold Division following a three-set and two-set victory.

The Blue Devils started with a three-set win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) and then swept Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur (25-14, 25-16). Wayne High improves to 3-0 on the season and will play next on Saturday, September 1.

BRLD swept GACC, 25-18 and 25-21 to compete in the silver bracket as the Bluejays will take part in the bronze bracket Saturday as well.

During the victory over GACC, Lauren Pick posted a team-high 12 kills, followed by Emily Armstrong with eight kills and 17 digs as well as another seven kills by Katelyn Grone. Frankie Klausen also picked up 17 digs with Erin O’Reilly close behind adding 10 digs. Allyson Avery led WHS with 15 assists while Kiara Krusemark tallied 11 set assists.

From the sweep over BRLD, Ashton Boyer came away with eight kills while Grone tacked on another seven. Pick led the dig department with 11 as Avery posted 12 set assists.

 

In Pool D from Wisner-Pilger, Wakefield-Allen dropped a pair of matches. First, North Bend Central won 25-18, 28-26 while Oakland-Craig then defeated the Trojans 25-12, 25-15 as the Wakefield-Allen started their season at 0-2.

North Bend Central defeated Oakland-Craig (25-21, 25-23) and advances to the gold division, Oakland-Craig will ply in the silver bracket while Wakefield-Allen will compete on Saturday in the bronze bracket.

During the loss to NBC, Devaney Brown and Courtney Bokemper paced Wakefield-Allen with six kills each. Jamie Dolph posted a team-high 19 digs followed by another 11 from Brown as Cassidy Thomas added seven set assists.

From the loss to Oakland-Craig, Haley Stapleton, Bokemper and Brown all posted two kills each. Dolph paced the Trojans with eight digs, followed by Stapleton and Abby Heimann with seven each. Thomas posted another seven set assists.
