Blue Devils Girls Finish Third, Boys Place Fifth In District Track & Field Competition

ALBION – The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team took part in the Class B4 District Meet hosted by Boone Central/Newman Grove Thursday.

In Albion, Blair was the top team to beat as their girls team scored 103.33 points while in the boys division the Bears won by 20 points with a score of 120.

Following Blair in the girls division saw Columbus Scotus place second with 74 points, Wayne came in third place with a score of 68 points, O’Neill finished fourth with 60 points and West Point-Beemer rounded out the top five teams with 56 points.

Class B4 Girls District

Other team scores came from Boone Central/Newman Grove (sixth – 51), Pierce (seventh – 49.5), Alringon (eighth – 41.83), Schuyler (ninth – 13.33) and Columbus Lakeview (10th – 10).

Blue Devil girls qualifying for state include Kylie Hammer who won the long jump (17’ 9 ¼”), won the triple jump (36’ 8 ¾”), 100-meter dash placing third (13.12) and 200-meter dash coming in second (26.29).

The 4X800-meter relay team was crowned District Champs after crossing the finish line in 10:10.64 (Gabi Meyer, Frankie Klausen, Andrea Torres and Molly Hoskins).

Gabi Meyer finished third the 800-meter run (2:26.01), Maysn Dorey tied for third in the pole Vault (9’ 4”), Andrea Torres came in fourth during the 3200-meter run (12:47.11) and Jenna Trenhaile finished fifth in the discus as an extra automatic qualifier (117’ 7”).

In the boys division, Pierce came in second behind Blair with 100 points, O’Neill took third with 80 points, host – BC/NG finished fourth with 54 points and Wayne High rounded out the top five teams with 51 points.

Class B4 Boys District

Other male team scores came from Columbus Scouts (sixth – 42), Arlington (seventh – 29), Schuyler (eighth – 27), West Point-Beemer (ninth – 17) and Columbus Lakeview (10th – seven).

Cody Rogers and Mason Lee have both qualified for state on the Blue Devil boys side in the long jump and triple jump. The two tied for first in the LJ (21’ 6”), Rogers won the triple jump (42’ 6 ¾”) and Lee came in third (41’ 5 ¾”). Jack Evetovich also will continue his season in the high jump after he took runner-up (5’ 11”).

The 2018 NSAA State Track & Field Championships from Omaha Burke Stadium are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 18-19. Class B teams will join Class D in the morning starting at 8:30 a.m. for field events and running events to follow at 9 a.m.
