Blue Devils Finish Sixth In Mid State Conference, Open Postseason Volleyball Monday

PIERCE – With Wayne High set to begin their postseason next Monday in Pierce, the Blues Devil competed in the fifth place match of their conference tournament also in Pierce.

The Mid State Conference Volleyball Tournament concluded Thursday evening.

In the fifth place match, #6 Norfolk Catholic swept #4 Wayne High (25-16, 25-17, 25-18). The Nights improved to 19-10 while WHS fell to 15-12.

Wayne double-double performers came from Rubie Klausen with 10 kills and 15 digs while Kiara Krusemark added 25 set assists and 15 digs to go along with three kills. Kate Hill posted a team-high 16 kills and seven digs; Sydney Redden paced the team in digs with 20 (one kill); Reagan Backer had nine digs; Faith Powicki tallied five digs as Mady Sievers finished with two kills and four digs.

Redden posted the lone service aces while Hill added two solo blocks as Amelia Legler and Anna Kaup both had a solo block.

The consolation match favored #5 Crofton over #2 Guardian Angels Central Catholic in four sets (17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 27-25) while the Mid State Conference finals saw #3 Pierce win in four sets over #1 Battle Creek (21-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-16).

Wayne High earned the #3 seed and will next face #2 Battle Creek in the Class C1-7 Subdistrict Tournament from Pierce on Monday, October 25 at 6:15 p.m. #4 BRLD will open Monday at 5 p.m. against #5 Winnebago with the winner to face #1 Pierce at 7:30 Monday night.
