Blue Devils Fall In Adams Central Invite Championship Game

HASTINGS – After having back-to-back weekend invitationals canceled due to the weather, the Wayne High softball team traveled to Hastings for the Adam Central Invite.

From the Smith Softball Complex, WHS was one of eight teams in action on Saturday.

The Blue Devils opened with a 9-5 win over Kearney Catholic, followed by an 8-5 victory against Polk County before closing out with a 4-1 loss to Hastings St. Cecilia.

Wayne High is now 12-6 on the season.

Hastings St. Cecilia improves to 25-2 with other wins over Ord (13-1) and Gering (9-6).

In the win against Kearney Catholic, Delaney Kruse singled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored while Caitlyn Mostek singled, doubled and drove in a run for WHS.

Logan Miller singled, drove in two runs and scored; Kierah Haase singled and scored; Jersi Jensen singled and drove in a run; Nyla Bolles and Taytem Ellis both accounted for a RBI and run scored; Mackenzie Nissen added a RBI; Liberty Titiml scored twice as Reagan McGuire and Jordyn Gamble both scored.

Nissen (116) picked up the win in six innings allowing five runs (two earned) off five hits while striking out five batters and walking three.

During the victory over Polk County, Ellis singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Bolles singled, doubled and scored twice for WHS.

Miller singled and drove in two runs; Kruse singled and scored; Sammi Gubbels singled; Mostek accounted for a RBI and run scored; Nissen added a RBI as Haase and McGuire both scored.

Nissen (67) picked up the win in three innings allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out three batters and walking four. Gubbels (55) worked three innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hilts while striking out and walking three batters.

From the championship game loss with Hastings St. Cecilia against, Kruse doubled and scored while Nissen singled twice and drove in a run for WHS.

Nissen (71) suffered the loss in five innings allowing four runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Gubbels (10) worked an inning striking out one batter.

The Wayne High softball team will next close out their regular season at Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Thursday, September 29 in West Point.
