CRETE – Moving into a busy month of April featuring 13 games and a weekend tournament, the Wayne High baseball team continued their 2021 campaign.
From Tuxedo Park in Crete, the Blue Devils visited the Cardinals Thursday.
A 12-run opening inning paved the way for the Wayne High baseball team on their way to a 24-4 victory. The Blue Devils have won back-to-back road games improving to 3-2 while Crete fell to 3-4, dropping their second straight.
The Blue Devils outscored Crete 12-1 in the opening inning before edging the Cardinals in the second inning 4-3. Following a scoreless third inning, WHS produced eight more runs to win 24-4. Wayne High had 14 hits with half being doubles on the day.
Reid Korth recorded a pair of doubles, a single, four RBI and three runs scored while Jacob Kneifl singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times for Wayne. Max Miller also singled, doubled, had five RBI and two runs scored.
Jaxon Mrsny singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored; Toby Braun singled, drove in three runs and scored twice; James Dorcey singled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Brooks Kneifl doubled, drove in a run and scored four times; Victor Kniesche doubled and scored four times as Kaleb Moormeier and Wyatt Heikes both accounted for a run scored.
Jacob Kneifl picked up the win in four innings allowing four runs (one earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking two. Dorcey worked the final inning striking out and walking one batter each.

The Wayne High baseball team will next host GACC/West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder on Monday, April 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. (time change). WHS will also visit South Sioux City on Tuesday, April 6.
