NORFOLK – Four teams came together to create a round robin ahead of New Year’s Eve as Wayne High traveled to Norfolk.
From Norfolk Catholic High School, the Knights welcomed in Wayne, Clarkson/Leigh and Guardian Angels Central Catholic during dual competition.
Wayne High began the day with a 54-27 victory over Clarkson/Leigh, then topped GACC (51-24) and edged Norfolk Catholic (43-42) to win the four-team round robin.
Norfolk Catholic placed runner-up with a round one win against GACC (48-10) and round two victory over Clarkson/Leigh (54-30). Clarkson/Leigh finished third with a 42-30 win over GACC.
In the win against Clarkson/Leigh, contested wins from Wayne favored Reece Jaqua (132) over Dylan Higby by fall (4:32) and Logan Schafer (285) over Andrew Rivera by fall (1:54).
Eli Barner (138), Alexandra Harrell (160), Aiden Liston (170), Reid Korth (182), Dakota Spann (195), Martin Carrillo (220) and Garrett Schultz (113) all won by forfeit.
Wayne suffered losses at 126 by forfeit while Jaden Stoklasa (145) defeated Raul Palma by fall (1:58); Nathan Bahns (152) defeated Francisco Jinez by fall (2:42); Bryce Jurgensen (106) defeated Alex Frank by fall (1:31) and Isaac Baumert (120) defeated Zach McManigal by decision (8-2).
From the win over GACC, contested wins from Wayne favored Eli Barner (138) over Evan Schuetze by fall (0:34); Reid Korth (182) over Cale Schwer by fall (0:14) and Martin Carrillo (220) by sudden victory – 1 (8-6) over James Rolf.
Jaqua (132), Harrell (160), Liston (170), Frank (106), Schultz (113) and McManigal (120) all won by forfeit.
Both teams double forfeit 126 while Bo Oligmueller (145) defeated Palma by fall (1:41); Ethan Baumert (152) defeated Jinez by fall (0:52); Cash Meier (195) defeated Spann by fall (3:27) and George Fraher (285) defeated Schafer by fall (0:37).

During the one-point victory over Norfolk Catholic, Wayne won 43-42 since Norfolk Catholic had more open weights than Wayne.
Wayne contested match victories came from Korth (182) over Ben Morland by fall (0:47); Spann (195) over Javier Hernandez by fall (2:00) and Carrillo (220) over Ben Sousek by fall (1:46).
Frank (106), Schultz (113), McManigal (120) and Jaqua (132) all won by forfeit.
Norfolk Catholic wins came from Kanyon Talton (138) over Barner by fall (1:23); Allan Olander (145) over Palma by fall (1:28); Noah Wattier (152) over Jinez by fall (1:17); Francisco Mendez (160) over Cooper Zara by fall (1:16); Brandon Kollars (170) over Liston by fall (3:13) and Isaac Wilcox (285) over Schafer by fall (0:28) as Noah Morland (126) won by forfeit.
The Wayne High wrestlers will next host Boone Central and Plainview on Tuesday, January 5 at 6 p.m. for a home triangular.
