Blue Devil Wrestling Splits Road Triangular

PLAINVIEW – With two dual meets and another three invitationals, in the month of January the Wayne High wrestling program began their first 2020 competition with a road triangular.

From Plainview high school, the Blue Devils joined Boone Central/Newman Grove and the host Pirates Monday evening.

In the first dual, Wayne held on for the win against Boone Central/Newman Grove, 45-38.

Match wins for Wayne came from Cooper Zara (160) over Eli Dozler by fall in 22 seconds, Cade Janke (195) over Israel Uma by fall in 34 seconds, Mike Leatherdale (285) over Cole Greek by fall (1:20), Ashton Munsell (120) over Aiden Nore by fall (3:28), Eli Barner (126) over Christopher Thiem by fall (3:25) and Reece Jaqua (132) over Colten Ray by fall (1:00).

Another Wayne results saw Tyrian Chenlo (170) win by forfeit.

BC/NG wins came from Richard Cleveland (182) over Dakota Spann by major decision (10-2), Taylor Weber (220) won by forfeit, Ted Hemmingsen (106) over Wyatt Heikes by fall in 50 seconds, Gavin Dozler (113) by over Zachary McManigal by fall (2:52), Jaxon Schafer (138) over Lance Muhs by fall (3:04) and Samuel Grape (145) over Francisco Jinez by fall (1:42).


During the dual against Plainview, Wayne secured two wins but fell 61-9.

Reece Jaqua (132) won by decision (6-2) over Tanner Frahm while Mike Leatherdale (285) won by fall in six seconds over Julio Tellez.

Other results saw Ashton Dane (106) win by fall in 16 seconds over Wyatt Heikes, Eli Lanham (113) won by fall in 57 seconds over Zachary McManigal, Scout Ashburn (120) won by major decision over Ashton Munsell (10-0), Kyler Mosel (126) won by fall (2:39) over Eli Barner, Nate Christensen (138) won by fall (1:37) over Lance Muhs, Ayden Stewart (145) won by fall in 51 seconds over Francisco Jinez, Will Gunning (152) won by fall in 51 seconds over Aiden Liston Zara, Matt Christensen (160) won by fall (1:25) over Cooper Zara, Alizae Mejia (170) won by fall (2:34) over Tyrian Chenlo, Lucas Hammer (182) won by fall (3:15) over Dakota Spann and Collin Gale (195) won by decision (8-2) over Cade Janke. Both teams double forfeit at 220.

Wayne is now 9-2 in dual competition.

The Wayne High wrestlers will next compete in the Malcolm Invite this Saturday, January 11 at 9 a.m. The busy month of January continues for WHS then with a dual at Battle Creek on Thursday, January 16 at 7 p.m.; Schuyler Invite on Saturday, January 18 at 9 a.m.; Neligh-Oakdale Invite on Saturday, January 25 at 10 a.m. and Winside dual on Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
