SCHUYLER – Following a home triangular that was postponed last week, the Wayne High wrestling program went back to work on the road for a weekend invitational.
From Schuyler Community Schools, Wayne High joined seven other teams during the Schuyler Invite.
Bennington won the Schuyler Invite with 236.5 points, followed by Blair in runner-up with 191 points, Columbus Lakeview placed third with 161 points, Scottsbluff took fourth with 156.5 points and Lexington rounded out the top five teams with 109 points.
Other team scoring came from Wayne High (sixth – 103.5), Schuyler (seventh – 91) and Norris (eighth – 83).
Wayne High was led by Martin Carrillo (220) who won his weight class while Reece Jaqua (132) and Reid Korth (182) both finished runner-up. Ashton Munsell (126) and Bo Armstrong (285) also placed fourth. Garrett Schultz (120) and Dakota Spann (195) both took fifth as Eli Barner (138) came in sixth.
The Wayne High wrestling program will next host their parent’s night dual that was rescheduled for Tuesday, January 19. The dual vs. Battle Creek will take place at the elementary gym with weigh-ins at 6 p.m. followed by wrestling action at 7 p.m. Parent’s will be introduced at 6:50 p.m.
WHS will also compete in the Neligh-Oakdale Invite on Saturday, January 23 before the Mid State Conference Wrestling Tournament hosted by Pierce will be on Thursday, January 28.
