Blue Devil Wrestling Finishes Second During Malcom Invite, Nine Medalists

MALCOLM – After hosting a triangular in early January, the Wayne High wrestling program took to the road Saturday for an invitational.

From Malcolm Public Schools, the Blue Devils joined 10 other teams during the Malcolm Invite.

Yutan won the invite with 202.5 points, followed by Wayne in second with 175 points, Omaha Concordia placed third with 149 points, Cross County/Osceola finished fourth with 128.5 points and Norfolk Catholic rounded out the top five teams with 103 points.

Other team scoring went to the host Malcolm (sixth – 93), Palmyra (seventh – 48), Lincoln Lutheran (eighth – 42), Freeman (ninth – 34), Southern (10th – 15) and Harvard (11th – 12).

Wayne High was led by Zach McManigal (113), Reece Jaqua (132), Eli Barner (138) and Reid Korth (182) winning their weight classes while Garrett Schultz (106), Ashton Munsell (126) and Martin Carrillo (220) all placed runner-up as Dakota Spann (195) took third and Alex Frank (106) finished fourth.

Other individual results came from Bo Armstrong (285) in fifth, Cooper Zara (160) finished seventh, Francisco Jinez (152) came in eighth as Raul Palma (145) and Aiden Liston (170) took ninth.

The Wayne High wrestling program will next host Battle Creek on Thursday, January 14 at 6 p.m. for a home dual. This will mark parents night for the Blue Devil wrestling program.
