ORCHARD – With a road invite set for Friday late afternoon in Columbus, the Wayne High wrestling program began their season Thursday with a road triangular.
From Orchard High School, Summerland (Clearwater, Ewing, Orchard) hosted both WHS and Wisner-Pilger.
In the dual against Wisner-Pilger, the Blue Devils won 54-12 while Wayne also topped Summerland 54-24 to win the triangular.
Wisner-Pilger defeated Summerland 36-30 in the opening round to place second.
During the dual against the Gators, Wayne victories came from Ashton Munsell (138) over Devon Schultz by decision (3-2); Aiden Liston (170) over Samuel Good by fall (0:46); Martin Carrillo (285) over Ben McDuffee by decision (8-7) and Alex Frank (106) over Tycin Lampman by fall (4:38). Reece Jaqua (132), Eli Barner (145), Francisco Jinez (152), Dakota Spann (182); Reid Korth (195) and Garrett Schultz (113) all won by forfeit for Wayne.
Wisner-Pilger’s lone match win favored Braxton Siebrandt (120) over Zach McManigal by fall (1:28) while Cesar Mares (160) won by forfeit.
Both teams double forfeit 126 and 220.
In the dual with Summerland, Wayne victories went to Reece Jaqua (132) over Alex Thiele by fall (0:56); Ashton Munsell (138) over Rafe Grebin by fall (3:59); Aiden Liston (170) over Kendrick Schroeder by fall (3:03); Garrett Schultz (113) over Daley Bearinger by fall (3:22) and Zach McManigal (120) over Anthony Ferris by fall (3:29). Francisco Jinez (152), Dakota Spann (182); Reid Korth (195) and Alex Frank (106) all won by forfeit.
Summerland contested wins favored Eli Thiele (145) over Eli Barner by fall (5:50) and Logan Mueller (285) over Martin Carrillo by fall (2:56). Jesse Thiele (126) and Wyatt Chipps (220) won by forfeit.
Both teams double forfeit 160.
The Wayne High wrestling team will next compete in the Columbus Lakeview Invite on Friday, December 4 at 2 p.m.
